ShopMobility UK, the nationwide network of charitable/local authority centres that loan out mobility scooters and wheelchairs for shopping and leisure activities, has launched a new website for easier access to information and membership services.  www.shopmobilityuk.org

ShopMobility UK has recently become part of Driving Mobility – the nationwide charity, supported by the Department for Transport, which accredits assisted driving and mobility assessments centres so elderly and disabled people can gain or retain independence. This new leadership has led to a ShopMobility rebrand and reinvigoration of its equipment loan services across the UK. Part of its new communication strategy to service users and centre managers has involved the development of a new website. This website now reflects the modern approach of the scheme supported by clear, easy-to-understand information which explains the service alongside a simple ShopMobility centre locator. There is also a trade login area for scheme members so they can access useful resources.

Most ShopMobility centres hire equipment such as manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters. These reliable products ensure people with restricted mobility or walking difficulties can enjoy independence outdoors, particularly around shops and leisure facilities. Hire services are low cost or sometimes free to all ages of people – representing an essential and affordable solution for many especially during the current pandemic.

The new ShopMobility UK website includes a topical news section which provides an opportunity for centres to share their updates and learn from other scheme members. This engaging content is being supported by managed social media aimed at service users and centre managers – focused on increasing awareness of services through a collective approach.

Edward Trewhella, Driving Mobility CEO, said: “It has been exciting times for service users and scheme members since we evolved from The National Federation of ShopMobility (NFSUK). Now known as ShopMobility UK, we are delighted to see renewed enthusiasm from our scheme members as they embrace change and work closely with our dedicated national coordinator. The new streamlined website perfectly reflects our rejuvenated approach and I would encourage all with an interest in accessibility and personal mobility, to engage with us and share our news.”
